Social Performance Task Force (SPTF) Annual Meeting Attended by 200 Microfinance Specialists from 50 Countries

The Social Performance Task Force (SPTF), a “global forum of microfinance experts,” held its annual meeting in Bern, Switzerland, from June 29 to July 3, 2010. The conference was attended by Laura Foose, the coordinator of SPTF; Melchior de Muralt, the Chairman of the World Microfinance Forum in Geneva; Klaus Tischhauser, the Director of ResponsAbility Social Investment Services ; Jean-Pierre Klumpp, the Chief Executive Offer of Blue Orchard Finance; representatives from CGAP (Consultative Group to Assist the Poor); the Ford Foundation; among others [1]. A total of 200 microfinance specialists from 50 countries attended the conference. The purpose of the event was to “address questions about measuring and managing social performance.” According to SPTF, social performance includes operating “in line with accepted social values that relate to serving larger numbers of poor and excluded people.” The conclusions of the conference have not yet been released.
About The Social Performance Task Force (SPTF):
The Social Performance Task Force (SPTF) was created in 2005 and consists of over 650 leaders from microfinance stakeholder groups including practitioners, donors and investors (multilateral, bilateral and private), national and regional networks, technical assistance providers, rating agencies, academics and researchers and others. It has been charged with clearly defining social performance and addressing questions about measuring and managing social performance. According to SPTF, social performance includes operating “in line with accepted social values that relate to serving larger numbers of poor and excluded people.”
